() — Creighton University announced today that it will build a new state-of-the-art residence hall for first-year students.

The $37 million building will be built at 23rd St., south of Burt St., and will house 400 students. The project is expected to be completed before freshman begins in the fall of 2023. The groundbreaking will take place this Friday at 11:30 a.m. at 23rd and Burt Sts. near.
It will be Creighton's first purpose-built dormitory for freshmen since 1960 and the first of any new residence hall since 2006. The opening of the hall has significant benefits, including an apartment-style concept that "allows for more independent living and has become a popular choice for students across the country."

The accommodation will consist of two transitional rooms, two double bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a shared kitchen in the centre. Each floor will have a kitchenette as well as a dedicated room for student development programs. Site preparation began on May 17.
The Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, SJ, president of Creighton University, said the new hostel is an investment in Creighton's future by investing in future students.

"The building represents a philosophical shift in housing our new students, with apartment-style accommodations that allow for privacy and community," he said. "Residency programming will also reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion, with dedicated interfaith spaces and facilities that support student development, well-being and faculty."

Tanya Winegard, Ph.D., vice chancellor for student affairs, said the creation of an interfaith prayer room and two prayer rooms for Muslim students reflect Creighton's institutional commitment to diversity and inclusion.

An integral part of the new hall will be space for health programs and scientific support, while outreach will be encouraged by the construction of an elevated outdoor courtyard where meetings and events can take place.
In addition to campus life playing an important role in the college experience, Winegard said the new residence hall provides the right environment for new students to develop as they begin their journey with Creighton.

The revised and technical list of electives should be used by all students entering college in the fall of 2017. This updated list includes a new "professional elective" category that allows mechanical engineering students to take up to 3 credit hours (toward their technical elective requirements) of 300- or 400-level STEM-related courses that enhance their career prospects.
Foster Road Elementary School
Mechanical engineering students who started their college career before fall 2017 (calendar year fall 2017) may request to fulfill the prerequisites and optional technical requirements. Advanced students who have taken courses removed from the list of technical electives may apply to follow the previous technical elective requirements if they still want the course to be considered among the technical requirements of their elective. Petitions for curriculum changes that affect technical capabilities should be sent to ug-advise@illinois.edu.

The department maintains a 2.25 cumulative grade point average (GPA) requirement for lower technical courses. In order for students to advance to a higher level (usually 300/400 level) in ME or TAM courses, a 2.25 GPA requirement must be met. Failure to meet the 2.25 GPA requires students to retake previous courses and potentially reduce course loads to meet the 2.25 GPA requirement.
As students move into more specialized upper-level courses, the technical cumulative grade point average (TGPA) requirement applies in addition to the traditional cumulative grade point average requirement (>2.0 GPA) to remain without probation. Students who do not have a minimum TGPA of 2.0 will be placed on probation and unable to pass. For more information on the probation policy, see Article 3 of the Code of Student Conduct – Academic Policies and Regulations.
