But even the most prepared can sometimes deal with subjects they never thought of, especially when it comes to finances. Chess club. A mock trial. The school newspaper. Chinese club. Volleyball. Sign up for all of this! Not so fast. Experts say it doesn't matter how many activities students do in high school. Think quality over quantity. "And whatever you choose, do it consistently," says Amy Prince, a school counselor at Southampton High School in Southampton, New York. "That is what you are actively involved in. Someone could do 40 hours of community service, but that was 40 hours in a week on a church mission and didn't do anything the other 51 weeks of the year? Compare that to a college student who volunteers year-round to, for example, Best Buddies to help people with developmental disabilities.
