Board President Lori Bay Levinson voted against the bill recognizing the holiday. He said he didn't want the school year to start a day earlier because of the holidays. The proposed start date was Wednesday, August 17, 2022, but due to the holiday, the board changed it to Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
