Moore Schools Calendar 2023-2024 – The Alamogordo Public School Board of Education approved the 2022-2023 school calendar at its regular meeting on April 20.

The 2022-2023 school calendar differs from previous years. After the 2022 New Mexico Legislature, Alamogordo Public Schools could choose whether or not to participate in the Extended Learning Time and K5+ programs, said Pamela Renteria, Alamogordo's assistant director of education and learning.

"This is the decision of the calendar council (APS supervisor) dr. (Kenneth) Moore that we are not participating in (Extended Learning Time (K5+)) this year," Renteria said.

K5+ is a program that allows students to voluntarily start classes a few weeks earlier.

Extended Learning Time, or ELT, adds 10 days to the school calendar to close the learning gap.

"We want (the students) to have a great transition day. It is a very important day for these students: going to a new school. new environment Stick to the schedule," says Renteria. "We want them to feel special that day and be able to adjust to the environment without too many people around them."

Kindergarteners, 6th graders and freshmen start on Thursday, August 11th and end on May 25th with everyone, including Kindergarteners, from August 12th to May 26th.

"We approve of this calendar and thank them for starting in August and finishing before Memorial Day," Hallbeck said. It facilitates the entry of these students into the new environment.

The 2021-2022 school calendar begins for students on August 6, and the last day of school is May 27.
