"Some kids can make quicker decisions," Smart said. "Some people will object. This is not a big concern for us right now. It's more about how we can support them and help them understand. All they can do now is work in their environment. Because they can't go to the high school gym. Everything is closed. So they have to do it themselves. They have to act spontaneously, and if they can do that when no one is watching, they can learn a lot about that person."

Georgia will benefit from being very active in the 2021 class in January. Everything is not as bad as it seems. For example, Ohio State University has no plan to welcome a core of elite prospects in January of the next cycle. The Buckeyes don't hold a Junior Day weekend for 2021 recruits in January like Georgia does.

The point of this February offseason is that it gives Georgia's staff an opportunity to learn how to recruit these young players in a different way without the need for face-to-face contact.

"Throughout February, we have to figure out how we can hire them without them coming to campus," Smart told reporters during a conference call Tuesday.
