Please note that the fall semester of some of our partner universities coincides with the spring semester at UH. If you plan to attend only one of these partner universities in the fall semester and this may cause UH to begin the spring semester, you must apply for the spring semester, and return to UH is not permitted. With your professors abroad to pass your final exams early. Even if you can do this, attending a partner university with overlapping dates may disqualify you from receiving financial aid for the following spring semester. You must also request leave for spring (https:///records/register/leave.html). Therefore, students interested in studying at one of the mentioned partner universities are advised to study there either for the whole academic year or only in the spring semester.

*Be sure to check the MIX program pages of the partner universities you are interested in studying at, as each partner university may have additional eligibility requirements. For example, they can only admit students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Or they may require students to complete two semesters at UH before applying for an exchange program (this is different from our minimum requirement of two semesters before leaving). Or there may be minimum language requirements that must be met. If you have questions about your MIX eligibility, please email outbound@hawaii.edu.

If you are a transfer student, please note that we cannot count semesters taken outside of UH toward the eligibility requirement, although exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

To apply for and participate in the MIX program, students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing. Students may not be subject to disciplinary action, suspension or suspension prior to their stay abroad or at the time of application. Selection may take into account the applicant's overall academic and disciplinary experience, academic goal, professional attitude, level of preparation and level of interpersonal maturity, advisor recommendations, personal training, and personal achievements. Applicants must receive an academic recommendation as part of the MIX application process. This recommendation is intended for professors, teachers, graduate students, etc. Must come from someone who attended UH Manoa. In other words, someone who can speak to your academic qualifications. Professional and family referrals are not accepted. You can download the MIX letter of recommendation form and instructions from our forms page.

If you are a transfer student or have not yet completed a course at UHM, you may ask a non-UHM professor, faculty member, or graduate student to submit an official letter of recommendation on your behalf. This letter must be printed on official letterhead, signed and sent directly to MIX by the recommender. MIX accepts letters of recommendation sent directly by the recommender or sent to outbound@hawaii.edu. Letters of recommendation sent through UH FileDrop are also accepted.

When applying to MIX, students are required to pay two separate non-refundable application fees: a $30 application fee and a $50 administration fee. These fees are separate from program tuition and are used to cover services related to the administration of the International Student Exchange Programs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Both fees are charged approximately 4-6 days after the application deadline.

Failure to pay these fees may result in the withdrawal of your application or cancellation of your candidature. This will also result in a cash credit to your account preventing you from enrolling in courses. Therefore, it is important to pay these fees on time. Please contact outbound@hawaii.edu with any questions. Please note that federal financial aid does not apply to these fees.

MIX endeavors to notify students of candidates and next steps by email within one to two months of the application deadline.

To apply, students must meet the requirements of their chosen program. Participants in the program must also demonstrate the ability to succeed abroad by demonstrating maturity, motivation, resilience and other qualities deemed relevant or appropriate by MIX. Participation in any program is subject to approval by MIX and its partner organizations, who may grant or withhold such approval in their sole discretion.

Uh Manoa Academic Calendar Fall 2022

Applying to a MIX partner university means that you have been considered suitable for one of the exchange places offered at that university. After your application has been accepted and the MIX administration fee has been paid, MIX will officially nominate you to the partner university.

Factors considered in the MIX application: GPA, answers to short essay questions, letter of recommendation, academic field, class level, available space, and balance of incoming and outgoing exchange students at each partner university.

Keep an open mind about your candidacy. All MIX partner universities are excellent, so wherever you go, you're in good hands.

MIX Summer Programs: Students who plan to participate in a summer program and pay the partner tuition directly to the partner university must wait until they are selected by the MIX office before proceeding to the next steps.

Once you've applied to a MIX partner university, you'll need to complete that university's exchange student application process, called a second application.

Important. Your 'Application and Next Steps' email contains detailed instructions on how and when to complete the secondary application process for the partner university. Follow the instructions carefully and submit your application materials to MIX or the partner university on time. Information on who to submit your application to will be provided in your appointment and next steps email. Let MIX staff know if you need help with your application.

Each university has a different application process – some have an online application, while others require you to send in forms and documents. Some universities require a letter of recommendation and some do not. Many universities require official transcripts, photo ID, health forms, etc. need.
