Aps Calendar 2023-2024 – The Alamogordo Public Schools Board of Education approved the 2022-2023 school calendar at its regular meeting on April 20.
The 2022-2023 school calendar is different from the past few years. After the 2022 New Mexico Legislative Session, Alamogordo Public Schools found it could enter or exit the Extended Learning Time program with K5+, Alamogordo Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Pamela Renteria said.

"It was the decision of the calendar committee here under the advice of (APS Superintendent) Dr. (Kenneth) Moore that we not do (Extended Learning Time or K5+) this year," Renteria said.
K5+ is a program that allows students to voluntarily start school a few weeks earlier.
Extended Learning Time, or ELT, added 10 days to the school calendar as a way to close learning gaps.

Kindergarten, sixth grade and freshman students will start school one day before their peers because they will be starting a new school.
"We wanted (the students) to have a big transition day, a big day for the students: going to a new school, a new place, getting to know the schedule," Renteria said. "We wanted them to feel special that day and to be able to do it without a lot of other people."
Kindergarteners, sixth graders and freshmen will begin Thursday, Aug. 11 and ends May 25 and everyone else including pre-K from Aug. 12 and ends on May 26.

"We approved the calendar and we appreciate going back to starting in August and ending before Memorial Day," Hallbeck said. "We also think that starting the transition years early is a great idea for those students to get into a new environment."
The 2021-2022 school calendar had students start on Oga. 6 where the last day of school was May 27.
