The dean is building on existing advising resources by creating a customized version of MyMajors, an online program used at other universities, available for the first time to the class of 2024.

"We believe this tool will make traditional advising events like Majors Night more useful for cadets as they get to see different majors early in their time here," said Julie Tetley, head of academic advising.

The Academy's newest cadets take a 15-minute assessment on the MyMajors platform during basic cadet training to assess available academic options and which programs match their interests, academic skills and career. I learned to achieve my goals.

"After completing the evaluation, one of the majors I was matched with was management, which confirmed my previous interest," said Cadet 4th Class Mason Bugg. "I felt like I did a good job of studying my interests and looking at other related fields that I might be interested in, like logistics."
Bugg says the grade made him think about the technical majors he wasn't interested in before coming to academia. Fourth-year cadet Taylor Miller said she is interested in becoming a doctor and the program gave her an overview of biology.

The results of the 15-minute assessment are non-binding and are intended to allow cadets to have informed discussions with academic advisors and squadron leaders. For example, identify courses in majors that seem more challenging for cadets and teach them about learning resources that can be used to increase the likelihood of positive outcomes in those courses.
One aspect that is unique to the academic version of MyMajors is information about Air Force majors. Cadets may be interested in the space force or in the medical field, and may find careers open only to specific, often technical, specialties.

Cadet 3rd Class Joshua Scahill, Class President of the 2023 Exemplary Team, said:
Sophomores were honored at a dinner ceremony earlier this month by Col.

"Colonel Thorsness was chosen as the best candidate for our class representative.

According to Thorsness' Medal of Honor citation, the F-105 pilot was on a mission to destroy a Viet Cong surface-to-surface missile site on April 19, 1967.
"In an attack on another missile site, the leader, Lt. Thorsness, was hit by heavy anti-aircraft fire and two [pilots] abandoned the plane," the insider says.
Enemy fighters were spotted while Thorsness was circling to report the search and rescue location of [the pilot's] parachute. Thorsness destroyed the plane and took off to find the air tanker. When he saw some enemy planes, he turned back.

"He spotted four MIG-17s and immediately attacked the MIGs, damaging one and evacuating the others. When it became clear that the plane was going to be abandoned, it was very low on fuel. The crew could have reached the tanker, but "It was difficult to avoid the possibility of loss of life. It was helpful," he said.
Later that month, Soness was captured by the Vietcong and held as a POW six years after his F-105 was shot down. He was released on March 3, 1974 during the Return Operation.

"We are honored to have Colonel Thorsness as a role model," Skahill said. "We hope that this election will inspire the cadets to become conscious leaders."

The Medal of Honor is the most prestigious individual military award given to United States soldiers who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. Admiral Michele Edmondson assumed the role of Commandant of the Cadets of the United States Air Force Academy in the summer of 2019. He arrived just in time to witness basic cadet training for the incoming class of 2023.

She reviewed some management training techniques and tactics. This has been passed from class to class over the years. However, Brig. Because of General Edmondson's background and experience in rigorous military training, he was pleased with the progress of his training and compared it to what military training looks like in the operational world.
So late last year, Edmondson and her team decided to standardize senior officer training to ensure that all training is done on purpose and that all cadets are treated with dignity and respect. ordered a halt in training to review and reorganize the entire Cadet Wing training program. .

U.s. Air Force Academy Day
A break of several weeks before the Christmas holidays has finally led to Military Training Instructors (MTIs) returning to the academy for the first time in more than a decade. The MTI team of five experienced Air Force recruits arrived in early 2020 to begin preparations for the Class of 2024 and basic cadet training for the following school year.
"Our MTI is equipped with a variety of tools designed to achieve behavior change during and after basic military training," says Edmondson. "They are working to provide the same methods to our BCT cadets."

Master Sergeant. Marcus Coley is the MTI Supervisor and BCT Program Director. The MTI assigned to each group is the commander. Nicole Steinbeck, group 1. Master Sergeant. Michael Walsh, 2nd Group. Master Sergeant. Steveson Ivory, Group 3 and Master Sgt. Adam Antonioli in Group 4.

According to Antonioli, the MTI team works hard to implement training standards to achieve organizational goals and desired results.

"Gene. Edmondson wants to make sure there's a 'why' behind everything we do," he explains. "We've produced great second brigades over the years, but General Edmondson didn't want a small training violation to become a major setback. This ensured that we were moving toward a more objective training standard."
Over the past few years, the academy has strengthened its military training (AMT) program with two NCOs per squadron. This program provides NCO cadets with a unique opportunity to learn about NCOs and their important role in the Air Force.
