A winter vacation in the Smoky Mountains is a great opportunity to experience the holiday spirit. From mid-November to mid-February, the three cities of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville host a live party. In addition to the lighting at Winterfest, there are Christmas parades, shows and lots of winter fun.

Located between Gatlinburg and Sevierville, Pigeon Forge is a great winter family vacation destination. Pigeon Forge Winterfest begins at Patriot Park with performances by local celebrities, free rides on the lighted trolley and other entertainment. More than five million lights spread cheer before the regular Christmas season until the end of February, and local theaters offer winter performances during the winter season. The main event is the island in Pigeon Forge, with three Christmas trees, a mile of garland, carolers and lots of twinkling lights.
Known as the Gateway to the Smoke, Gatlinburg is located 7 miles south of Pigeon Forge. Gatlinburg Winterfest is as popular as winter lovers. But the season is shorter and ends at the end of January. Among the traditional holiday light displays, bell towers, snowshoes and cartoons, you'll also find some interesting examples of the area's native animals. The winter festival kicks off with a street chili cook-off. Other highlights include the Fantasy of the Lights Christmas Parade, New Year's Eve Balloon Drop, Festival of Trees and Fireworks.

Finally, Sevierville, 7 miles north of Pigeon Forge, hosts a beautiful winter festival. Beautiful lights are displayed from downtown north to Interstate 40. Live music and hayrides continue through the end of February.
