SUNY has lost a legend who was recognized for revolutionizing the field of diagnostic medicine. He was a true pioneer, dedicated to medicine and research.

Dr. Damadian was one of the first to propose the use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for medical imaging. He was widely recognized for developing the world's first commercial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, which is now routinely used in clinical applications and revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Born in Queens, Dr. Damadian was an avid violinist and tennis player who played in the Junior Davis Cup as a teenager and attended the Juilliard School of Music. He received a Ford Foundation scholarship to the University of Wisconsin and earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine before earning an MD, joining SUNY in 1961 to complete his residency.

Queen's University At Kingston
In 1967, he was appointed to the faculty of the Biophysics Section of the Department of Medicine. While at SUNY, he came across a tool used in chemistry called nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). He began to explore how it could be used to represent the body. He discovered that the relaxation times of NMR signals differed in normal and cancerous tissue, paving the way for what is now known as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Dr. Damadian has received numerous awards and recognitions during his career, including the Lawrence Sperry Award (1984), the National Engineers Special Recognition Award (1985), the National Medal of Technology (1988), induction into the National Hall of Fame Inventors. (1985). 1985). 1989), Unrelenting selection of the first human magnetic resonance scanner for permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (1986). In addition, Dr. Damadian received an Honorary Doctor of Science from SUNY in 1995.

The SUNY College of Nursing will join forces with 49 schools to foster inclusive environments and build a more diverse nursing workforce.
Brooklyn, NY – The SUNY College of Health Sciences has been selected to participate in a national American Association of Nursing Colleges (AANC) initiative to promote inclusive learning environments and create a more diverse workforce. The project, called Building a Culture of Belonging in Academic Nursing, began in January 2022 with funding from Johnson and Johnson to help schools of nursing create environments where students, faculty and staff feel a strong sense of belonging and support.

Martin Van Buren High School
"We are thrilled to have been selected by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to participate in this initiative," said Lori A. Escallier, Ph.D. RN CPNP-PC, FAAN, Dean and Professor of the Faculty of Nursing. "There, we are prioritizing initiatives that focus on health equity, diversity and inclusion that will enable us to provide the highest quality of health care to all the patients we serve. Inclusive learning is critical to our success and I am confident that this program will help our nursing program grow and help it continue to develop."
Using a digital platform developed by AACN called Leading Across Multidimensional Perspectives (LAMP), data will be collected from SUNY students, faculty and staff based on their perceptions of the university's classrooms as a community. AACN will use the data collected to provide institution-wide assessments and action reports to help administrators better understand how their campus climate affects student experiences and performance.

The University Police Department (UPD) would like to remind the community of our commitment to safety. To ensure a safe and secure environment, we want to remind the entire community to be vigilant while navigating the campus and surrounding area.

As part of the project, AACN will pilot a new digital platform that will help evolve how nurse educators approach teaching, learning, and professional engagement. The platform will administer AACN's Culture and Climate Survey for Multidimensional Perspectives (LAMP®).

This tool collects data on student, faculty, and staff perceptions of their undergraduate classrooms as a community in five subject areas: fair treatment and perceptions of discrimination, belonging, value of diversity and inclusion, campus services, and clinical training.
Using data collected through LAMP, AACN will provide participating schools with institution-wide assessments and action reports related to the development of inclusive academic environments.
