The rapid growth in higher education institutions is increasing the size and use of student data. This includes traditional data such as demographic data and academic performance; new information arising from the use of education management systems and student ID cards; and record of achievements, including employment, salary and volunteering. When this data is collected, it is possible to create rich profiles of each student and provide new information on ways to improve the learning experience. For example, they can provide new information on how to better improve education, training delivery, and educational support programs. This knowledge can help at-risk students learn and eventually graduate. However, while the increase in available information is reshaping the foundations of higher education, it also increases the risk of 'ill practice', the risk of negligent collection/storage and the inappropriate use of records. As such, institutions have a moral duty to collect and use this information on behalf of students. In this webinar, Laura Jensen from Colorado State University and Vanessa Roof-Lincoln from the University of Nebraska share their thoughts on Using Student Information and Evaluation, available on the TS3 website , and how they discuss the issues. . organization.
